Soil loss estimation and prioritization using geographic information systems and the RUSLE model: a case study of the Anger River sub-basin, Western Ethiopia

Abstract Soil erosion is a major environmental problem that affects people's livelihoods and health, particularly in developing countries. The present study aimed to identify soil hotspot areas prioritization the Anger River sub-basin for conservation planning. Revised Universal Loss Equation (RUSLE) model geospatial technologies were adopted of sub-watershed Key parameters such as rainfall data, slope length steepness factor, cover management, practices used estimate potential risk sub-watershed. results showed annual loss rate Sub-basin ranged between 0 932.6 t/ha/year with mean 83.7 t/ha/year. About 1,140.7 km2 (43.6%) 220.6 (8.4%) categorized under very severe types, respectively. mid- upstream areas, well steeper parts sub-watershed, highly exposed erosion. This research provides tangible evidence decision-making process water at scale. Moreover, further should be conducted micro-watershed scale minimize effects on health sustainability watershed.
